The Mapuche (mapu = earth, che = people) are one of the many American indigenous groups that have tried to conserve their beliefs, customs and identity the most. Their language is Mapudungun.

The Mapuches have preserved much of their traditional craftsmanship and are still artistically skilled in woodcarving, jewelry, pottery, weaving and wickerwork.
